Veda Classes at HTCC

Veda Classes will be conducted at HTCC by recently hired priest Sri. Lakshmi Narayanan Kannan ji who is a Krishna Yajurveda - Tritareeya Shakha Pandit from Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. The primary goal of these classes is to teach basic Veda Mantras with proper swaras as well as aksharas.

Class Requirements:

• The classes are offered for FREE of cost. However donations are always welcome made payable to HTCC to be utilized for phase II construction planned to start mid 2008.

• No prior knowledge of Vedas or Sanskrit is required.

• Recommended age is at least 8 years old.

• The classes are open to everyone, but will be strictly restricted to those who are serious about chanting vedas.

• The classes are scheduled every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM starting from September 19th 2007 onwards (presently this is the only time slot that the classes are allocated).

• A one time registration is required.

• A signup sheet will be passed around, so as to know the attendees every week as well for passing class information.

Class Structure:

• Beginner Level: Pancha Suktams (Purusha Suktam, Narayana Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam & Nila Suktam), Pancha Shanti, Rudram, Chamakam, Aruna Prashnam (Surya Namaskaram).

• Intermediate Level: Taitreya Upanishad (Sikshavalli (Samhika), Anandavalli (Yagnika), Brighuvalli (Varuna)) & Mahanarayana Upanishad

• Advanced Level: Ashwamedham & Achidram.

Presently, only the recitation of the Vedas is being taught to the students.

Meaning of the vedic hymns taught in the class can be obtained by doing a google search.
